Writing Portfolio

About the Portfolio
This is showcase portfolio of writing I have produced while attending the University of Denver. Works are from both my writing minor and other parts of my degree. While there is a diversity in the works presented common themes throughout them are geography, sustainability, interconnections and complexities. However, they showcase a variety of ways in which these themes can be presented and my flexibility as a writer in doing so. I selected these pieces for mixes of their distinctive writing styles, and my personal enjoyment of many of them as well.
About Me
I am in my final quarter of my undergraduate degree at the University of Denver. I am majoring in environmental science with minors in sustainability, sociology and writing. My interest in writing began back in middle and high school as I loved working with words to convey ideas in different ways, and always have been an avid reader. During high school I also began personally creatively writing. These passions inspired me to pursue a minor in writing, being careful to keep a distinction between writing for personal enjoyment and academics.

Beyond and even within my work for the writing minor I enjoy writing for science, about environmental topics and to expand education on environmental topics. I am passionate about sustainable recreation, tourism and human-environment interactions. These passions have guided my academic journey at the University of Denver where I was fortunate enough to study these topics in Iceland, New Zealand and England. I also studied abroad continuing coursework towards environmental science and sustainability during the first half of my junior year at the University of Newcastle Australia.
I was born and raised in the foothills of Colorado, and the mountains will always be home. This helped instill my passion for the outdoors, sustainable recreation and tourism. Outside of academics I can either be found on the ski slopes or hiking with my dog. I love to travel, learn about and explore new environments any chance I am given.
