The Great Eastern Ranges Initiative - The Great Dividing Range of Australia
Mountain Environments and Sustainability
Winter 2024
This piece was produced as a final project for this class. We were tasked with researching an example of mountain sustainability and presenting this information as a case study in the format of an informative briefing. The assignment goal was to inform the audience of this case study in 4-6 pages, utilizing images, maps, or figures and make it readable to a non-science based audience. I chose a country wide initiative in Australia that worked within several landscapes in which I had been able to visit in a non academic context while studying abroad. This piece showcases synthesis of ideas, geographies, and mediums while exploring a stylistic format of writing used to inform broader audiences of scientific scholarship.
Social Media's Tourist Gaze and Tourism in Iceland
Geography of Iceland
Summer 2024
This is an essay that was completed as a final project for this class. This was a summer interterm travel class and class content was delivered prior to a week in Iceland and while in Iceland, with a final research paper further investigating any class content following the travel portion of the class. I investigated the role social media and the tourism gaze has on tourism in the unique environment and tourist conditions of Iceland. This is a research essay that combines several disciplines of scholarly research with personal experience interwoven to explore the present and potential of sustainable Icelandic tourism.
Trip to Mars Part 1 & 2
SCIE 2019 Astrobiology: Life Beyond Our Planet
September & October 2023
Study Abroad: University of Newcastle Australia
This was a two part assignment done over the course of the semester for this online class I took while studying abroad at the University of Newcastle Australia. The overall assignment was to explore how using a model of the origins of life on Earth, can help guide and inform the search for extraterrestrial life, in the context for this assignment, on Mars. The goal of part 1 was to conduct a literature review on the context of astrobiology and previously conducted Mars expeditions. Part 2 was then to expand upon the previous work summarized in part 1, with the utilization and analysis of data packets provided, design a hypothetical next mission for test sample recovery on Mars. Both of these assignments are stylistically blends of literature reviews and lab reports, and echo elements of a formal scientific journal article.
